"Studying Africa - understanding the world" - this is the slogan of the interdisciplinary  Master's program African Studies at the University of Basel. We do not aim at training Africa experts, but to de-centre our perspective on the world, to question Euro-centric assumptions in academia in order to achieve a better understanding of the world and to contribute to the further development of traditional disciplines.

The Master's program African Studies is open to graduates from a wide range of subjects, particularly in the social sciences and humanities. Our curriculum offers you many options within the framework of the thematic fields of your choice. It allows you to build a specific profile based on an individual portfolio and targeted at your career plans.

Exciting applied teaching projects such as joint research projects or, currently, the organisation of the 3rd European Student Conference on African Studies guarantee a formative study experience.
